Victorious Vic
New York
Victor Nunez a.k.a. “Victorious” was born in New York City. Even though he was raised listening to the traditional “Merengue Tipico and Bachata” due to his Dominican culture, his ears couldn’t hold out from hearing other genres of music in one of the biggest urban cities.
“You cant help walking down a New York City block and not hearing a Salsa or a Merengue then you cross the street and hear something totally different like Hip-Hop, Rock, Reggae or Pop. Some of these music genres are the reasons to why our music sounds so different from your usual Bachata” he expresses.
From a very young age he was already determined to reach a goal in his life. In school at age 13 he got that opportunity and joined the school’s talent show by singing and doing a dance.
“Since I was 4 yrs. old I stood in front of my mom’s mirror imagining that I was singing in front of a big crowd, and I always took my mom's camera to make home movies. I remember that day I performed in the talent show like it was yesterday, my heart was beating so fast before I got on stage. Once I went on and started performing the girls were going wild and crazy right then and there, I said WOW! this is it!” he recalls.
That inspired Victor to start writing songs even though he had little knowledge of how to organize an actual song. He didn’t let that stop him he just went back to his favorite songs at the time and heard what was repetitive, where there was preparations for hooks or verses.
“I was a very fast learner, and I already had so many feelings in my heart and so many ideas in my head that had to do a lot with what went on in school and around me. Like with girls and coping with rejections, heartbreaks, those little crushes we all had, which I call young love (laughs). At 13 you don’t really know what love is yet . I know everyone went through something similar at that age.” he explains.
The very ambitious Victor was always the only one pursuing the music career in his family. Coming from a family that didn’t really ever have the chance to have a real career job, his parents wanted him to be the one that succeeded and went on to college and have a career.
“I didn’t get a lot of support from my parents at first, some parents want their kids to be a doctor or a lawyer and I was stuck with those type but I just loved the feeling of being on a stage and being able to share my life experiences with the fans. I know there are a lot out there who have felt the same way I have. I also wanted to make a change in the world and I felt that music was a way of doing it.” he explains.
Finally in January 2004 at age 17 he got his first break and performed his first professional show, in Brooklyn, NY in front of at least a crowd of 1,000 people. He kept performing locally at almost all the clubs in the Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Manhattan area getting well known. Then in 2006 he met Geno and Sebastian through a family connection. At the time they were also locally doing the same thing. Victor came in the group formally known as GeniSwing playin the Guira. Then one day Geno and Sebastian heard his voice and felt like he had more future as a singer.
In 2007 they took the initiative Victor became the lead singer. The 3 guys then performed as a new group with a new visual. Victor with his writing, Geno with his composing of music, and Sebastian in charge of percussion and producing.
In 2009 he signed under the record label Ripiao Records where they are currently recording their first album that will include different fusions such as Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Techno and many more surprises that promise a change in the genre.
T-Urban's first single "Tu Lindo Amor" was released in June of 2010 and already was the most top played song of the month in the Dominican Republic and its still currently playing. They've release their second single "Hay Party" which had a high demand for the groups debut. Due to that, they left on their first media tour in Aug. 2010 to the homeland of tipico Dominican Republic.
In 2012 Victor separated from T-Urban and became a solo artist. He also changed the genre that he was persuing to Bachata. Right now Victor is currently working on his first solo album.
"I believe that what I do will reach the people's ears and make an impact on the world. My goal is to one day share my thoughts on everything around me and hopefully have people who can relate to it and feel like my music is their way out."
