Vieve
Sydney
From the eclectic artistic influences of its members, Vieve is the product of a musical experiment between like-minded individuals who have found creative common ground. The sound can be found in the depths of chilled IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) and progressive electronica. Drawing on diverse artistic influences from folk to jazz, ethnic to classical Vieve’s music is fused with pop sensibilities. Cinematic production and synthetic, organic melodies with chilled beats glue Vieve’s musical mosaic to deliver evocative electronica.
The band chanced upon one another whilst pursuing Masters degrees in Media Arts and Production in Sydney. Marko and Ricky, who were collaborating on a radio play, accepted an invitation to one of Genevieve’s live performances. Ricky, an experienced producer with a passion for vocal production, was sold. Captivated by Genevieve’s ability to put her own mark upon songs with unique vocal phrasing and tone, he was convinced that he could take her voice to another level, producing a distinctive palette for the new projects sound.
Classically trained guitarist Marko West has a love for indie progressive bands such as Tortoise. Working extensively in India playing Jazz guitar, as well as performing at large festivals, Marko is a confident performer with few musical boundaries. Known for his spontaneous floods of musical ideas which Ricky describes as ‘melodic tourettes’. Marko’s nylon string guitar lays an organic foundation for Vieve’s sound.
Ricky Pannowitz is a musician, musicologist and seasoned producer. Working with diverse artists across the musical spectrum, he honed his craft as a musician and engineer, settling into production. His compositions and production, influenced by film, art, technology and eclectic sound has been heard on high rotation singles on radio, television and short film soundtracks. Ricky combines his arrangement, programming, engineering and musicality prowess to create Vieve’s lush soundscapes.
Genevieve Little has been a performer from a young age. Singing, playing guitar and piano led to her discovery of songwriting, after which she became aware of the vast possibilities within music. After moving from the beaches of the chilled Central Coast to the bustling diversity of Sydney, Genevieve immersed herself in the inner-city arts scene and creativity of the media arts campus. Her music began to evolve as she embraced technology to expand her musical production and performance using live looping. Taking an overseas cultural exchange venture to San Francisco’s State University for her Masters in audio production, Genevieve was exposed to a plethora of musical possibilities. She incorporated her folk-jazz influences within a newly acquired love for progressive electronica. Armed with new found musical perspective, Genevieve returned to Australia ready to embrace a new project and direction. Enter Marko and Ricky…to the front bar of a Surry Hills hotel.
After that fateful gig a passionate conversation about music, life, the universe and everything ensued early into the next morning, culminating in an invitation for Genevieve to co-write on new tracks namely Rewire and Niea.
It all just clicked and the result is chilled, shaken not stired with a twist.
