Zafayah is a versatile artist and a reggae pioneer in his home country Bulgaria. However, his music reaches beyond borders - he has performed throughout Europe and Asia. As a songwriter and producer, he is on a mission to spread the message of love and overstanding, as well as to speak about the issues affecting the world today.
Zafayah is currently working on a EP which is to be released this autumn. He will also be releasing several singles starting with ‘Lesson is a Blessin’. The tune is part of the new riddim album on Honest Music's catalogue, Communion Riddim, which is released on June 22nd, featuring artists such as Don Carlos, Christos DC, Perfect Giddimani, Harrison Stafford (Groundation), Kenyatta ‘Jr Culture’ Hill and more. Zafayah and Washington DC based label Honest Music have been working closely in the last couple of years, so stay tuned for more music by this combo. Furthermore Zafayah is planning an acoustic EP release in 2019.
As a singer and instrumentalist, Zafayah’s name is to be found on several EPs and albums, as well as compilations. In the latest years Zafayah has worked on multiple levels of music production. In addition to writing and producing his own songs, he has also produced instrumentals and written lyrics for other artists coming from different genres. His latest releases include the single ‘Speak The Fire’ (Honest Music)with Christos DC (US) & The Skankin' Monks (NL) which happened during Zafayah and Christos DC's tour in India January 2017, and reached #18 on the Global Reggae Charts. Another single Zafayah released in 2017 is ‘Can’t Keep Me Down’, which is part of the Old Tape Riddim album, produced by Kin Riddimz.
One In Spirit is the title of Zafayah’s debut solo album from 2015, featuring nine vocal songs and two dub versions. The album is well diverse in terms of lyrical content and musical grooves. Amongst the collaborators are Jahcoustix, Mellow Mood, Jahmmi Youth and Dub Caravan. Videos from the album were featured and released on Reggaeville, and several songs are heard on international radio stations. One In Spirit is available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. A remix of the album’s opening track ‘New Day’ was released in the next year as well as a video shot by the talented Spanish film-maker Antonio Rodrigo.
Zafayah is the producer of the first Bulgarian reggae riddim, Bun Vampayah, featuring artists from the Caribbean, US, Africa and Europe. He is one of the people who have been promoting reggae on the Balkans and taken the homegrown music to the world. In 2013 Zafayah alongside the Roots Rocket Band won the Rototom Reggae Contest’s award for best band in Eastern Europe.
From 2018 Zafayah is running a limited fashion brand, Livicate, making organic cotton t-shirts with designs promoting causes that need more attention in the public. This project is part of his general mission to spread a conscious attitude towards our home - Planet Earth.
