Albert Meintjes
Cape Town
Accomplished singer songwriter Albert Meintjes was first seen on the stages of South Africa in 1996.
Inspired and motivated to write and perform his own compositions he embarked on a very exciting journey. Albert writes about everyday happenings and the emotions they bring. His stories of love and life make for entertaining if pensive lyrics. He is strongly influenced by folk and acoustic music across the globe, coupled with indigenes rhythms and melodies. He has a deep love for Southern American flavours of music and where they meet African rhythms and these traits are rooted deep in his music.
Albert grew up in a musical family with his parents both recorded gospel artists, his sister Hainley Cole a dance teacher and jazz vocalist and brother Gideon Meintjes, one of SA’s top drummers and performing musicians.
At the age of five, Albert was already on stage singing in his school choir which were the runner-up in the Applause national choir competition. In 1997 his music career took him to the rock stages of SA and he soon found himself sharing the spotlight with the cream of SA talent, including bands like Strange Weather, Duusman, the SAMA award winning Not My Dog and the ever so popular Scicoustic of which Albert has been the front man for the past eleven years.
Albert has performed with New Porn alongside Arno Carstens, supporting the Metallica tour and on stage with some of the top artists in the country like Albert Frost, Anton La’mour, Karen Zoid, Greg Georgiades, Valiant Swart, Shaun Morgan (Seether), Hugo De Waal , Lani van der Walt and Moseu Kettlele just to name a few.
With his unique voice, brilliant song writing and exceptional guitar techniques, Albert has entertained audiences in London, Croatia, Seychelles, Mozambique, Cuba, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Belgium, The Netherlands, Nigeria and Kenya, and he was well received all-round.
