Alonso Gonzalez started playing percussion at the age of eleven, when he and a group of school friends set up the band ''Energia Latina'' in Cartagena/Colombia.
His love for Latin rhythms continued and he studied percussion with the famous percussionist family from Cartagena ''Los Pintos''.
He made his professional debut at the age of thirteen, playing with professional musicians at ''La Piragua Bar''
The ''school boy band'' went on to play concerts, featuring Latin American artists such as Jerry Rivera, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Kinito Mendez, Rikarena, Guayacan Orquesta, and other well known Colombian Bands.
He started playing with the ''Manhattan sextet'' in 1998, The group travelled throughout Colombia as a backing band for Julio Cesar ''El Cubano''.
After a few trips to Taiwan and Thailand, Alonso lived in Malaysia from 2001 to 2006, there he played and recorded with artist such as Zainal Abidin, Resh Monu, Steve Thornton Latin Jazz Quartet, Greg Lyons, Lewis Pragasan, Jose Thomas, Amir Yussof, Farid Ali and Resh Monu.
He has played in all the mayor festivals and promotions in Malaysia and Singapore, as well as playing regularly at the top Jazz Clubs in town.
Alonso endorses LP (Latin Percussion) and conducted clinics with Bentley Music.
He was also part of the Steve Thornton Roland Endorsed Electric Band.
''Alonso Gonzalez & Jazz Latino'' was set up in 2003, bringing together musicians from Malaysia, Colombia, United Kingdom, China, and Canada.
Having lived in Madrid, Bogota and Caracas, Alonso now lives in Hong Kong, he has added to his quintet, musical elements from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, inspired by the groove and sounds of instruments like Bomba from Puerto Rico, the African DunDun, the Guaguanco Cubano, the Calypso and some flavours from the Caribbean coast of Colombia.
All these follow the format of Afro Latin Jazz, shown in a simple way for better appreciation of the virtual sounds of the artist on the stage.
Alonso has now released his album ''La Compostura'' recorded by musicians from all around the World.
