Colombian Spanish bass baritone Andrés Jiménez-Ramírez is considered one the most important performers of classical songs by Hispanoamerican composers from 19th Century to our times, Mr. Jiménez-Ramírez possesses a unique voice with a brilliant, velvety, suggestive timber. He joins these magical elements in an expressive line of song which is attractive, elegant, forceful and passionate while also filled with subtleties.
His vocal versatility and artistic ability have taken him to renowned festivals and theaters in America and Europe, with a repertoire that ranges from Baroque opera, Oratorio and Zarzuela to lyric recitals of Spanish, Latinamerican, Italian, French, English and German song.
He trained in opera and chamber music with scholarships at Teatro Colón, Schola Cantorum Basilensis and L’Avant Scene Opera in Switzerland. Later he began to perfect his technique with the prestigious master Peter T. Harrison.
He has performed in opera and zarzuela festivals in Bogota, Medellin, and Costa Rica, as well as in acclaimed venues in Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Andorra, France and Latin America such as Teatro Colón, León de Greiff Auditorium, Mélico Salazar Theatre, Rüttihubelbad Walkringuen Theatre, Téâtre de Colombier, Adolfo Marsillac Theatre, Municipal Theatre Buero Vallejo, Lope de Vega Theatre and the Alicante Regional Auditorium. He has performed under the direction of maestros of the calibre of Luis Remartínez, Ángel Hortas, Guerassim Voronkov, Oscar Gershensohn, Álvaro Marías, Yves Senn, Rey Cantor; with staging by Javier Ulacia, Humberto Lara, Jean Claude Pellaton, María Voronkova, Piera Rossi and Vanesa Martínez among others.
His repertoire includes works such as La Favola d´Orfeo (Monteverdi), The Messiah and Joshua (Haendel), Stabat Mater (García V.) Magnificat and St. Matthew Passion (Bach), Salve Regina (García), L´Isola Disabitata and Missa in Tempori Belli (Haydn), King Arthur and Dido & Aeneas (Purcell), La Leyenda del Beso (Soutullo y Vert), Los Gavilanes (Guerrero), Katiuska and La del Manojo de Rosas (Sorozábal), Luisa Fernanda (Moreno Torroba), the Merry Widow (Lehár), La Corte de Faraón (Lleó), Château Margaux (Fernández Caballero), Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), La Boheme and Madama Butterfly (Puccini). He has also performed a broad range of other Hispanoamerican composers, from García e Iradier, to Mejía, Calvo, Figueroa, Kylenyi, de Falla, Guastavino, Blas de Laserna, Rodrigo and Monsalvatge, among others, as well as masters from the European lied tradition, such as Brahms, Schubert, Donaudy, Tosti, Poulenc, Satie and Fauré.
