Arnaud Forestier
Paris
Alchemy is the name of young Parisian Jazz pianist Arnaud Forestier, in a trio with Antoine Vidal on bass and Tao Ehrlich on drums.
After graduating from Paris Regional Conservatory, under teachers Benjamin Moussay and Paul Lay, and touring internationally in more than 200 shows alongside numerous artists from the French jazz scene such as Tom Ibarra, Ishkero, Jî Drû - Western / Sandra Nkaké, The Big Hustle, JayStep (recording at Abbey Road studio)… composer Arnaud, in their first release, sought to distil the magical and mystical discipline of alchemy into music.
He first conveys this concept by intertwining various influences felt throughout the pieces, which include Shai Maestro, Brad Mehldau, Tigran Hamasyan, as well as rock and post-rock styles, and composers Joe Hisaishi and Masashi Hamauzu… As the trios’ pianist, Arnaud imbues Jazz and improvised music with the heartfelt tonalities of Japanese composers, using this intricate recipe to craft a unique musical alchemy formula.
In doing so, he unveils a musical tapestry showcasing the various mysteries and fantasies Alchemy has to offer. Emotions are transmuted into music before our eyes, fueled by a perpetual equivalent exchange taking place between three improvisation alchemists. We catch glimpses of musical matter being continually unmade, remade and transformed.
They take the audience on a poetic and emotional journey, rife with nostalgic melodies, sizzling improvisation and powerful rhythm, carried forward by a bewitching piano sound, subtly enhanced with effects. All these ingredients react together in an improvised yet meticulously crafted alchemy circle, whose climax unleashes a formidable blast of energy.
After shooting two Live Session videos and an EPK at Studios de Meudon with director Loïc Gayot, and postponing live shows in France due to the pandemic (at Sunset Sunside, Baiser Salé, 59 Rivoli…), Arnaud is already planning to record the “Alchemy” album, expected to release Q4 2021, and alongside his trio, he takes us on a journey to an uncharted universe.
