#74: Roman Honor With Carlin Barton by The Art of Manliness published on 2014-06-27T23:00:40Z I talk to professor of classical history Carlin Barton about her book Roman Honor: The Fire in the Bones. Honor has played a huge role manliness across time and cultures. Professor Barton and I discuss what honor meant to the Romans, how it governed their lives, and what it meant to Roman masculinity. Professor Barton explains the how the Romans distinguished males from men and how a male gained status as a "man" and the role male extendibility had in that process. Later on in our conversation, we talk about the decline of honor in Ancient Rome and the rise of philosophies like Stoicism during the civil wars and the rise of the Roman Empire. It's a fascinating discussion. Genre podcast Comment by User 654183630 Yooo 2023-03-03T14:09:17Z Comment by Marcus Aurelius Dude...that voice. I found very curious that for some seconds her voice changed pitch and became ok, donn't know where that came from but I wish that would have been a permanet condition of the audio... also the talk is all over the place, way too long... 2016-12-17T22:45:31Z Comment by Sovereign31 Why is a woman educating people on the art of manliness? Honour for women is not even a concept. Its just a variation of "Chastity". 2016-01-15T06:44:24Z Comment by Hurricane47 Does anyone know what that instrument is in the opening?
