Arts Across Borders polly lavin dublin Arts Across Borders was a collaborative community arts project that ran during 2010 and 2011 and involved a number of community music groups from the north and south of Ireland. Up to 50 participants aged from 13 years upwards participated in the project. A series of compositions were drafted from old Irish and Orange traditions and themed around peace specifically for the project by composers from the north and south of Ireland and the USA. The instruments involved range from piano/bass accordions, uileann pipes, bagpipes, Irish harp, button accordion, concert flutes, fife flutes, lambeg drums, snare, bass and timp drums and violins. The group performed in 3 public spaces in the north and south of Ireland in early 2011. As part of the education and outreach delivered through the project a number of community education talks were delivered with single identity groups such as The Orange Order, Ulster Scots, GAA and Apprentice Boys of Derry. Arts Across Borders welcomed all members of the community to attend these events in the aim of educating communities that live in close proximity to one another about each others heritage and identity thus assisting in breaking down barriers between the traditions that exist on the island. This project was a peace building and collaborative arts project funded by The Irish government, Department of Foreign Affairs Peace & Reconciliation Fund and Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism to which were very grateful for support.
