LOG#078 by Auriscenes published on 2022-03-10T05:34:59Z I stand on a world abandoned. It has known life. But that life was not kind to it. The inhabitants were a candle that burned twice as bright, but for only half as long. In their haste to cram ever more into their lives, they disregarded their surroundings, forgetting to care for the planet as—like all things--it wore away. Instead of trying to save it, the people here simply left it, seeking another world to support the weight of their tireless consumption. What was not deemed essential, which was nearly everything that was not shiny or entertaining, was left behind to rot away. Now cities lie crumbled. What once was nature is now desolation, a still emptiness only disturbed by errant lonely dust. I've seen empty worlds, planets never touched by any form of life before me. This…feels different. It's as if the very surface mourns the loss of what once tread upon it. It remembers life, and now it is doomed to forever long for what it has lost as it drifts through the blackness of empty space.
