Big Ships (Coming into Tyne) by Roy Mc Calvey published on 2021-10-11T22:03:42Z Back in the day my family & I would park the car on the headland overlooking the North & South Piers at Tynemouth in the North of England. We'd take sandwiches, a flask of coffee & watch & listen. Between the two piers flowed the Tyne River. As magnificent a sight as any on this earth is the coming & going of shipping plying their trade in & out of the Tyne. Back then some of these monsters would be rusty & old and some shiny & new but they always took your breath away in their size & the wake they cut through the River! Some of the famous ships that have graced the Tyne over the years are .... 'Pacific Crown', 'Sand Fulmar'.... the colossal 'Koningsdam' (arrived August 2016, the biggest ever cruise ship to grace the River Tyne)....also 'The Queen Victoria'....'The Bonga' & too many others to mention. Where were they going & where did they come from?
