After the release of their recent single 'Everything Change' with remixes from iconic breakbeat legends Evil Nine, Red Snapper's Rich Thair and Telemachus, ever-evolving electronic/soul collective Ink Project announce their second full-length album ‘Satellite On’ - released on 13th March via the Blind Colour label.
Featuring the distinctive vocals of long-term collaborator Melanie Dymond, new Trinidadian-born singer, bassist and thereminist Coreysan, a guest appearance from evocative Chinese songstress FiFi Rong with a 'lost in space', scrap-book style album cover from artist Steve Pulham, Jez Lloyd's rich tapestry of drum machine sequences, movie soundtrack snippets, symphonic string scores, live recordings, lo-fi samples, atmospheric keys and sine-wave bass murmurs, move between a myriad of organic styles and electronic sub-genres, exploring the assonances of texture and underpinning the universal lyrical themes concerning modern day life, love, hate, relationships, change, reflection, surveillance societies and alien existence.
Beginning with the Brian Eno-type ambient soundscapes of 'Where To From Here?', a sonic exploration that leaves behind big city life, finding solace in the sound of seaside seagulls while a UFO circles overhead, the achingly soulful future dub/reggae of 'Soul Food' and 'Time' slowly unravels the deep tones of Coreysan's soothing yet majestic vocals before FiFi Rong enters the frame on the hypnotic, modern soul of 'You Don't Care.'
Coreysan's rousing 7/4 chorus on 'Future Now' then leads into the chilling yet bluesy sub-bass techno of 'Ghost In The System', a cover of the famous Blind Willie Johnson classic, before Melanie Dymond appears on first single 'Everything Change', the more up-tempo Prince-inspired electronic funk of 'See The World In My Eyes' and a hypnotic duet with Coreysan on the Dead Can Dance-like title track 'Satellite On'. Finally, the laid back, electronic jazz and Beach Boys-influenced vocals of 'Hey You' concludes the album, with the meandering trumpet of Submotion Orchestra's Simon Beddoe fading into the distance.
