Live @ Los Angeles Rave 1996 by Christopher Lawrence published on 2018-04-01T16:35:50Z Live from 1996. This set was recorded at a rave in Los Angeles in 1996. This is the true sound of the underground when Progressive House, Trance and Techno all blurred into one sound. DJs spun vinyl on Technics 1200 turntables. It was a completely different experience to using laptops and CDs. We set the record in motion with a flick of the wrist and lightly touched the record to to keep it on beat with the record spinning on the other deck. No easy task when the turntables were sitting on card labels right on the dance floor. But that is what made it special. No big stages, no LED screens, no digital downloads, no iTunes, no Youtube, no internet! These parties were word of mouth and paper flyers only. And after partying all night long at a warehouse rave we would head to Venice Beach to carry on in the sun at a proper popup out door party. Hopefully as you listen to this mix you will be taken back to a different time when dance music was just beginning and anything was possible! It contained a few tracks and an 'interview' with CL and a British guy. for the life of me, I can't seem to find this CD, anyone know what I am referring to? 2020-12-11T18:36:08Z Comment by voodooutt Boom. The "soul" that was (is) a part of this sound stands out so much, and is what makes the music really magical. Thanks so much for sharing :) 2018-04-06T03:21:40Z Comment by Tenley I love this track and still listen to it on one of your early CDs :) Fun set! Thanks for posting. 2018-04-04T02:43:43Z Comment by adamjustinwright Gather round kids: *this* is what rave music in that era truly sounded like. The real McCoy. The chaos, the lack of any sort of nod or reference to anything that a mainstream ear could recognize. This is what the underground sounded like. I can only imagine what a banger this party must've been. 2018-04-02T19:54:28Z Comment by Steven Vicaire I might have been there! 2018-04-02T12:48:03Z Comment by aelric MMMM!!! 2018-04-02T01:25:48Z Comment by JayGee03 Thank yo Christopher for this mix and all you have done and do with your music!
