Chunyang Yao is a composer and electronic musician from Lijiang, China. She studied composing & composition theory at Music Conservatory of Shanghai. Her music is based on contemporary composition techniques and electronic noise aesthetics. In 2014, she launched her solo electronic music and voice performance project. One of Chunyang’s primary music field is the traditional music of the Nakhi, an ethnic group from Yunnan. As a Nakhi herself, she concentrates on exploring the possibilities of Nakhi traditional music and the phonetics of the Nakhi language.
