CJ FRAZIER
DENVER
Count Denver DJ and producer CJ Frazier among those delivering a fresh new sound to the world of electronic music. The Denver talent possesses the rare sort of vision necessary to see where the pieces of a bigger picture fit together.
Electro house, trance, breakbeat and more find their way into his sets, and he transitions between each style with effortless showmanship. His releases have proven equally diverse, garnering support from such tastemakers as Miles Dyson and DJ BL3ND. Most notably, however, he is the originator of the “psybounce” genre, an upbeat style which fuses elements of psytrance and melbourne bounce.
You could say that music found CJ Frazier - not the other way around. The very first concert he attended at 14 was DRC at The Palladium in in Denver, and his uncle was able to bring him backstage to meet her. Frazier’s early exposure to the industry ensured that an illustrious career in music lay ahead.
He started putting in work right away, and as fate would have it, he landed first official DJ gig at the same venue. Soon after, he entered into numerous DJ competitions held by destinations like Club Vinyl, Beta Nightclub and various other production companies. He won every single one, including a contest that awarded him a time slot on the main stage at The Big Bang, which took place in 2011 at The Denver Coliseum - when he was still only 17.
Before long, Frazier added other Colorado massives like Decadence, Frostbite, Glo, Hallowfreaknween and Caffeine: The Digital Circus to his résumé. His tireless work ethic afforded him opportunities to play across state borders as well. In SoCal he’s performed at 333 Live, Dim Mak Studios and the warehouse rave Bass Bounce; in New Mexico he’s delivered DJ sets at Effex Nightclub as well as outdoor events like Mystic Wonderland and My Dirty Valentine; and in Utah he played an underground massive called United.
As far as his releases are concerned, CJ Frazier has come a long way since “What What,” the electro house debut single he burned onto CDs that found their way onto car windshields all over town. In 2013 his Elevate EP climbed above #50 in the Beatport Top 100 New Releases & Albums chart. Three years later his track “Drunk and Ready” wound up on the download store’s Electro House Top 100 Tracks chart as well as another curated by Miles Dyson at the end of the year. To date, Frazier’s originals and remixes have been released through such labels as DNCTRX, Weekend Weapons, Press Play and Plasma Pool.
In 2018, a song on the latter imprint marked Frazier’s most game-changing musical endeavor. Titled “My Unknown,” it struck an ingenious balance between psytrance and Melbourne bounce, pairing the hypnotic kick drums of the former with the high-energy sawtooth synths of the latter. Amid trance’s celebrated North American comeback, the stage is set for psybounce to take the festival world by storm with CJ Frazier leading the charge.
With each upcoming release, CJ Frazier looks to develop his exciting signature sound even further. The years to come show great promise indeed for the up-and-coming talent.
