Chris Whitley-Din Of Ecstasy by dannyk8r published on 2013-07-19T17:00:15Z This is the full album before it was "mixed" for release. It is raw. It is pure. The poetry of Chris' lyrics are more legible. The tones are what we were listening to in the studio. The actual release mystified people. It never represented the recording. It never represented the genius of where Chris could, and did, take the blues and rock paradigms. The album is one of rock's Greatest Misses. There are some alternate versions, and a different sequence. Mostly I am posting this because of the decades of conversation with Whitley fans who don't enjoy the album. How can you convince someone that "really, it's a milestone and a classic" when the only thing they have heard is a watered down commercial release that has little to do with the actual work that was done? I hope this spurs conversation about this classic! Genre Blues Rock Comment by zeruch this would have been an epic vinyl release 2024-04-07T06:04:27Z Comment by Paul Conway 5 this needs to come out on cd. it's a totally different album 2023-11-12T18:13:43Z Comment by Laura Wiley-Donohue HOLY SH*T 2023-08-29T16:39:21Z Comment by User 816217111 Track list: 1 WPL 2 Never 3 Alchemical Affair 4 Immortal Blues 5 Know 6 O God My Heart is Ready 7 Guns & Dolls 8 God Thing 9 New Machine 10 Can't Get Off 11 Din 12 Narcotic Prayer 13 Days of Obligation 14 Ultraglide 2023-06-06T17:38:44Z Comment by Jessie Lee Montague Love this version. 🙏🤘❤️ 2023-01-18T17:39:12Z Comment by Eric Bullard Any chance this sees an official release? Love the alternative mix. 2022-05-26T07:47:42Z Comment by Tony Shergold I loved this record from the first listen, and 25 years later I get to fall in love with it all over again. Thank you so much for sharing this. 2021-12-14T16:08:27Z Comment by François Dejean BTW this was my first Chris concert, in France, and what a blast this was! 2021-11-25T20:04:07Z Comment by François Dejean Just stumbled upon this gem. Was a big fan of Din (not lucky enough to have been in the studio!), but a new peak is being reached! Thanks Dan! 2021-11-25T20:02:26Z Comment by mike_shroat Incredible 2021-11-22T06:06:00Z Comment by JonProphet This album was my baptism into CW. I was hooked on all things Chris from then on. 2021-07-22T22:10:12Z Comment by rodneywhopkins it's like I stumbled upon an entire new Chris Whitley album! Thank you! 2021-07-21T04:37:28Z Comment by audiogrouch much gratitude… 2021-07-20T12:13:15Z Comment by Dawn OMG A REAL din of ecstasy! The difference between this and the original has me feeling all "conspiratorial" lol But why would anyone in the industry want to sabotage this on purpose? Thank you. The world needs to hear this :) 2021-03-04T04:34:02Z Comment by Phil Timms Really wonderful - thanks so much! 2020-12-27T15:58:22Z Comment by jrai This has to be released. Absolutely amazing. 2020-07-28T12:32:58Z Comment by Danny Pink I keep coming back over and over. This is such a beautiful version of the album - superior to the "official" in my eyes 2020-03-19T15:26:02Z Comment by Redpony I saw Chris at the Khyber Pass in Philly when Din was released, just him and a drummer. Insanely loud and powerful. This is definitely closer to that experience. Thank you so much for posting this. Pure genius. Miss him. 2019-12-19T00:34:48Z Comment by JayScott Beautiful stuff! Very glad to have found these mixes! 2019-10-17T02:44:32Z Comment by Fleashine Only recently discovered this .... Wow. The commercial release is one of my favourite albums of all time and now I find it hard to listen to. This cries out to be released. I see how old some of the comments here are saying the same thing, so I’m not holding my breath. But just look at some of the record store day releases over the past few years, this would be perfect, a 25th Anniversary RSD 2020 limited edition vinyl release? 2019-08-14T10:59:00Z Comment by Stephen Gibb My god ! Thank you for posting this version of the record. Chris was such a genius. His music changed my life and continues to inspire me to this day. 2019-07-16T12:42:01Z Comment by Drebbus Can we somehow get a lossless version of this? It’s so incredible. 2019-06-08T02:04:25Z Comment by Daniel Weldon I absolutely love this, I bet if Hendrix was alive when this was recorded, this would have reversed influenced him as Chris took his inspiration and elevated it with his beautiful poetic verses! 2019-05-09T20:53:17Z Comment by jrai Wow. How has this never been released? Another major label miss. 2018-11-22T17:08:00Z Comment by Mike Errico so mad 2018-11-20T13:45:26Z Comment by Jamie Oh This gnarly guitar work at the end is so muted in the release version. Love this mix of it. 2018-01-08T23:57:49Z Comment by toddkincaid I love Din. But this is awesome to hear. 2018-01-04T19:03:13Z Comment by Karl Valentine The album as released is one of the finest in the rock canon. I know firsthand that when Chris toured through Seattle on that album, that Jerry Cantrell, Stone Gossard, and Chris Cornell greeted him, and basically told him, "You made the album we all tried to make!" Not a made up story. It's always been in my top ten of all time, along with Dirt Floor. It's impossible to pick favorites with CW. 2017-12-01T03:58:49Z Comment by Jonny Langston 1 Anyone find the name of track #3?? at 7:51. "Chemical Affair"? 2017-08-30T16:57:37Z
