Real 4 Play Records: Velocity Released Feb David grew up listening to electro and hip hop, not the current electro sound that’s doing the rounds now, we’re talking Jam on it and Al naafiysh. David is truly ‘Old School’ David started DJ’ing at the age of 15 and made it his profession at 16, playing mostly small venues and bars around his home town of Nottingham. David had a passion for collecting early Chicago house tracks from producers like Farley JackmasterFunk, Mr Fingers and Marshall Jefferson and regularly played them to not so appreciative audiences. In 1990 David was DJ'ing at Ceasers in Greece and remained their resident DJ for 2 years. On returning to the UK David got together with his long time friend DJ Keen and started producing dance music under the name Bass Ballistics. They soon became early pioneers of the Jungle/Rave scene and quickly signed some tracks to a small label called J4M. After topping the Mixmag dance charts Bass Ballistics moved to DJ SS’ label Formation Records, here they produced some of the early Drum ‘n’ Bass tracks that today have become classics. Bass ballistics appeared on various compilations by Jumpin & Pumpin, Vital Sounds and Kickin Records as well as being featured on The History of Drum+Bass album. With the success of Bass Ballistics the DJ side of things took off and David was found playing at many big clubs accross the UK such as Progress in Derby and Kaos in Leicester as well as doing live PA’s for Formation Records. David also entered some DMC mixing competitions under the name DJ Noise and regularly appeared on pirate radio in the Midlands. David has been living in Spain for over 7 yearsand is still DJ’ing nearly 25 years on and currently produces an exclusive dance mix for Radio Nova. His return to producing house music demonstrates influences from his old school days. You will probably hear a few breakbeats and samples you may recognise in his tracks along with some driving basslines.
