Habitual Purveyor of GOOD House Music!
Donald Barnes' love for music is rooted in the rich musical tradition of his family. Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His father was a local DJ and his mother sang in Pentecostal church choirs, the house was always filled with interesting music. His parents always had lots of cool records in their collections which included the likes of Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, and a host other 70's and 80's RnB, Jazz, and Gospel acts and artists. He began toying with his father's stereo and record collections at an early age when he would make mixes for his dad using his reel to reel recorder. He continued to delve into music, participating in bands and DJing at any opportunity, and really began to get serious based on a dare while vacationing with friends in South Beach, FL in 2000.
Donald’s early musical influences include old school RnB, Soul, HipHop, and House. He started sneaking into raves and dance parties with his older sister when he was 13, so he began getting into dance music at an early age; even hanging out with DJs at Tulsa's famed Thing One record store at 18. In his late high school and through out his college years, Donald worked in music and records stores in order to support himself while attending college.
Since becoming a DJ/Producer, he has been heavily influenced by artists like, Sharam, Seb Fontaine, Pete Tong, Tall Paul, Bob Sinclar, Tiesto, Axwell, Shapeshifters, Armand Van Helden, DJ Dan, Cevin Fisher, Chicane, D:Fuse, Funky Green Dogs, Hideo Kobayashi, Pete Heller, etc. Today his musical tastes and track selection reflects the eclectic styles that he grew up listening to as a youth. His styles can be described as very fluid with impeccable transitions. His transitions are genius! His groove fits well into a series of sub-genres that include but are not limited to, House, DeepHouse, Progressive, TechHouse, Techno, Jackin, and Trance.
His presence is primarily local Tulsa, OK where he has opened for DJ Dan, and played alongside of several local DJs; Turk, Elliott Poston, Derek James, Deanna Avra, Austin Lee, and DJ Demko at many venues including Templ, Empire, Majestic and Lola’s. Many have often referred to him as one of Tulsa's Best Kept Secrets!
