Edo Amin
Tel Aviv
DJ/producer/remixer
"Edo Amin is, in many ways, an artist before his time, merging electronic and middle-eastern music, using samplers, using rap instead of [traditional] singing, using lo-fi sound, complementing his work with visuals and relating to the Internet" - from Mooma.co.il, Israel's premier music catalog website.
Mooma also mentions the "activist rock band" Ma'atz I co-founded, and my other band "Edo Amin and his Emotions". In recent years I'm producing for others and for myself.
In the new millennium I spent some years in the San Francisco bay area, among other things did live sound for world-fusion band To Life!. During that time, a major Israeli newspaper (Yediot) included me in the celeb list of "Expats We'd Like To Return Home", with music critic Yehuda Nuriel writing: "Edo Amin has arrived to so many places before everybody else, much before everybody else, and then nonchalantly continued his journey. Always with a modest smile under huge eyeglasses, wearing either a 3-part suit or alternatively a plastic leopard jacket. He invented the Internet and Indie before the terminology even existed, developed a web portal and open source, dabbled in comics, played with samplers, combined vanguard music with oriental rhythms and 18 years ago created the most amazing Israeli TV clip ever. Artist, author, musician and an authentic freedom fighter, he's on vacation from us for much too long".
My music and visual projects made it to museums, won awards, got mentions in national and international media, and have been once critiqued by a minister of police. However, I leave my intellect at home when I go dancing (tango, EDM and the bay area's 5 renowned Rhythms "Sweat Your Prayers"). When MTV's MC Eden once asked for my favorite all-time track on a brief MTV interview, I mentioned Snap's "I've Got The Power". That exceptional butt-moving track is still on my all-time top 10.
Located in Tel Aviv, I am an independent producer of award-winning audio-visual as well as pure audio productions. I also do sound for and record local bands.
