“The Chills are thrilled to finally be returning to the United States for our first proper tour since 1996. It was in America that we had some of our greatest adventures, made our most loyal fans and met people who would become life-long friends while, at the same time, we performed some of the best live shows in our history.
Yet so few people there have seen the new group which has now been together nearly two decades and is being acclaimed as one of the best line-ups we’ve ever had! I can’t wait for us to bring the States up to date with the ongoing and epic saga of The Chills. “Martin Phillipps, Dec 2018
Following a recent tour of New Zealand around the release of new album ‘Snow Bound’ (Fire Records), The Chills announce they will be heading to the US for a 14-date tour before heading to Austin for SXSW.
New single ‘Bad Sugar’ is a song steeped in frustration and the acceptance of others as their beliefs, often religious, help them get by later in life.
The latest postcard from The Chills’ epic journey is an album about “consolidation, re-grouping, acceptance and mortality,” claims the chief Chill, Martin Phillipps. “Hopefully a kind of Carole King ‘Tapestry’ for ageing punks.”
On ‘Snow Bound’ lost heroes are lamented, relationships are re-evaluated, atonement is sought, mortality is mulled over and fake news is undercut. It’s serious stuff, the thoughts of a dysfunctional 50-something wrestling with maturity and discovering that their post-punk DIY beliefs still have a real voice that resonates between the fans of their early years and which can now pass down to the next generation.
The Chills are Martin Phillipps, James Dickson, Todd Knudson, Erica Scally and Oli Wilson.
