Floating Island Floating Island Brisbane Zak and Jordan both grew up in Cairns/Port Douglas, Far North Queensland, meeting each other through the same guitar teacher. They listened to the same music and shared the same love for sound but didn’t start making songs together until after university. Jordan graduated from the conservatorium of music in Brisbane and Zak studied 3 years of Ocean Engineering in Tasmania and Western Australia Jordan progressed in his solo career to becoming a touring finger style guitarist, writing his own original compositions. Zak attained his skipper’s ticket in Airlie beach and sailed ex-racing yachts commercially, taking 25 guests on overnight trips to snorkeling destinations and around the Whitsunday islands. During the 2020 pivot of covid, they both moved to Brisbane to embark on a journey of songwriting and exploration of sound. They formed the band Floating Island - after the dream Zak had in university to build floating islands on the ocean. Their sound reflects the influences of their childhood - The Eagles, Beatles, Angus and Julia stone, with a folk/country indy sound that has both a melancholy feel and also a sense of wellbeing Their new video of the song ‘Come Down to Earth’ features Zak singing on the boats he works on with a guitar underwater. Both Zak and Jordan are an enthusiastic team who are excited to see where their journey of songwriting can take them.
