Furat Qaddouri فرات قدوري Baghdad Furat Qaddouri Born in Baghdad, to a prominent family of musicians whose father Hussein Qaddouri was a musicologist that specialized in children’s’ folk songs & rhymes. Furat Is one of the world’s prominent Qanoun player and composer He has taught music since graduating from the Baghdad School of Music & Ballet and in the Institute of Musical School & Academy of Fine Arts in. Furat extended the usage of Qanoun into being an instrument that can be played solo and has succeeded in bringing out the unique and expressive tunes. He participated in several international events which enabled him to mix and incorporate the rhythm of various cultures specifically with Jazz and Latin Tunes. During 1998 in Jordan, Furat released his First album ‘Mesopotamian Qanoun’. His album successfully proved his ability to solely play the Qanoun as a stand-alone instrument. His innovativeness leads him to blend other tunes to his music such as the Caribbean and Latin tunes then he released his second album “The Spirit Calls”. His relocation to Belgium, Germany & United Arab Emirates increased his cultural awareness and expanded his musical capabilities. His 3rd album, yet another more mature achievement was “Hanging Gardens” which is a tale about two people vowing eternal love to each other. Furat uses the Qanoun as the central key-instrument and links it in a fun-dialogical approach with other instruments incorporating traditional Iraqi music and other Middle Eastern rhythms. Furat Qaddouri he is the founder of Furat Qaddouri Music Center the first Music & Ballet Academy in Sharjah. And founder of Sharjah World Music Festival.
