GONZO
Ghent
Part one of GONZO's journey through techno started in the first decade of the third millennium, inspired by artists such as Jeff Mills, Surgeon, The Advent, James Ruskin, Steve Rachmad, Dave Clarke and Technasia, among others. He found resonance in the more grim as well in the uplifted themes, and incorporated both to create ambivalent minded performances, regarding his state of soul. Playing records was a way of therapy, a way to translate emotions to the outer world.
During the decade he played around Belgium, at different venues and locations including Kozzmozz, Decadance, Londenbeat, and got a residency at the early Rector, based in his hometown Ghent. Getting deeper involved, he started organising various techno events. With TicTacTechno in particular, the gratification of the crowd appeared as an accomplishment.
As times changed, so did the evolution in techno music. The raw and chunky tunes seemed forlorn, and it's parties with it. With no more attraction, GONZO retired from the scene and focussed on different aspects of life.
In 2020, through a friend and fellow DJ, Seba Lecompte, GONZO got pointed out to a new emerging sound. A sound that reminded him at the early days of his career. Discovering a lot of new eery and inspiriting music, he has got no other option than to make his way back to the scene. So now, therapy starts all over again.
This journey is not ‘about’ GONZO, but depicts the narrative which unfolds by transmitting impressions ‘trough’ GONZO.
