Kiran John Kilgariff (born December 13, 1991), better known by his stage name Gospel, is an Australian hip hop artist, battle rapper and half of the hip hop duo ‘Brokeman Squad’.
At a young age, Gospel was very quiet and struggled to express himself to people around him.
It wasn’t until he discovered a passion for music, particularly hip hop, was he then able to use it as a way to express himself.
Since the age of 15, Gospel has been involved within the hip hop genre with interests such as writing, mixing and recording his own music.
Becoming heavily active within the local hip hop scene around him, he was able to instantaneously learn how to use his skills to their fullest potential, resulting in having his music heard by such artists including Trials from the Funkoars, as well as Suffa from the Hilltop Hoods, receiving positive responses from both artists.
From his teenage years through to being an adult, Gospel has recorded a large number of songs and mix-tapes which have generated a large following from people within the hip hop community.
Gospels style of music produces versatility, with a dynamic mixture between upbeat, laid-back but also incorporates his personal life and his concept of the world around him.
Having had extensive radio coverage, Gospel has had his music heard on Radio Adelaide’s “Hip-Hop Mania” segment as well as Fresh FM.
He has also performed at a large number of local hip hop shows as well as landing support act slots for well established Australian rappers such as Kerser.
Gospel has worked with a wide range of local talent in the scene, but an artist who goes by the name of Mythz who was also making his own debut, caught his attention the most and Gospel quickly learned that Mythz’ style and taste in music was very similar.
With both artists having such a large passion for music, it resulted in Gospel taking on part time work whilst studying at school to afford and create his own personal recording studio.
Friends of Gospel used to make fun of him when he said he was always broke which resulted in the nickname “Broke Man”.
Gospel and Mythz took inspiration from that nick name and formed the group ‘Brokemans Squad’.
Due to Gospels competitive nature, he has taken upon a platform known as ‘Battle Rap’ to showcase his skills of intricate and creative punchlines, schemes and clever wordplay.
With the battles being recorded and uploaded onto Youtube, Gospels skills rapidly caught attention of viewers around the battle rap community and as he rises up the ranks, he is expeditiously taking on some of the best battlers both nationally and internationally.
In between battling, Gospel has also released various solo projects with great responses from fans and other artists around him, having his music played on multiple audio platforms more than 20,000 times and downloaded more than 1,500 times.
In 2015, Gospel was picked to fly to Brisbane, by Adelaide’s most known Battle Rap Leagues ‘President’ to represent himself amongst some of the biggest names in Australia and America in Battle Rap history, making this Australia’s largest All Star Battle Rap event to date.
Also attending the event was the worlds largest Battle Rap League President ‘Organik’, who was scouting for Australia’s best talent to invite and showcase in Toronto at his annual event called ‘World Domination’ in which battlers from all over the world come together to compete.
With having such positive responses from the best in both the battle rap and music scene, Gospel has evolved from just a local teenager with a passion for making music, to a well established figure, profoundly involved amongst the best lyrical artists in Australia.
