Percy Schmeiser - Monsanto Corporation and Genetic Modification, Part One, #79 by Guns and Butter published on 2024-03-01T03:12:45Z Percy Schmeiser is a farmer and seed developer from Bruno, Saskatchewan, Canada. His canola fields were contaminated with Monsanto’s Round-Up Ready Canola. Percy and Louise Schmeiser have farmed for close to sixty years. Almost on the verge of retirement, they decided to not back down from Monsanto’s threats and intimidation. Louise and Percy Schmeiser spent a week in Sonoma County, California, at the invitation of local ecologists and organic farmers supporting Measure M on the November 2005 ballot. Measure M would put a 10-year moratorium on the production of genetically modified organisms in Sonoma County. In 2005, Measure M was out spent and defeated, but a similar measure passed eleven years later, in 2016, with nearly 60% of the vote.
