Puritan March by Historic Music of Newport published on 2022-06-13T12:51:37Z William R. McQuown composed the Puritan March in 1885. Born in Kentucky in 1842, he accepted a position as the leader of the Newport (R.I.) Band in 1876, and in 1882 became the leader of the band of the U.S.S. New Hampshire, stationed at the Naval Training Station in Newport. The Puritan was the winner of the 1885 America's Cup, against the British Yacht Genesta. Historic Music of Newport is a non-profit.
