It’s about discovering that the world is a tougher place than you thought it would be, wondering if you’ve lost your way, and yearning for a place or time where you felt comfort and belonging. For me that place is my hometown in Northern California, where the hills are lined with pine trees and redwoods and the tranquility of nature is always close by. I wrote the song at my current residence near Downtown Los Angeles, where I often feel the city lights and sounds are too much for me - especially at night when I’m trying to sleep. The words and melody of the chorus came to me first, and right away I had a strong feeling of what the song was about and what I wanted to say with it. Completing the lyrics and form took several more writing sessions over the course of a couple weeks, but I kept that sense of clarity about what the next lyric would be. I recorded the track with producer Jordan Ruiz (@thejordanruiz) at his home studio in Palos Verdes, a beautiful hilltop escape from LA. The track features Dylan Hayden on drums, Jordan Ruiz on bass, piano, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, and harmonies, Max Schwartz on banjo, and myself on lead vocals. ❤️ Follow Indie Folk Central ╎ https://youtube.com/indiefolkcentral ╎ https://facebook.com/indiefolkcentral ╎ https://instagram.com/indiefolkcentral ╎ https://soundcloud.com/indiefolkcentral ╎ https://spoti.fi/2UwktAT ⭐ Become a Supporter!
