Origin: Reading, Berkshire, England
Originally from the United Kingdom, James Sambell–known professionally as D!SCORD–resides in Victoria, BC, Canada. He also frequents Vancouver and Whistler to play shows, attend shows, and visit friends and family. From niche sounds to those within the mainstream pocket, James indulges the Bass Music scene. However, he is also known for a secondary focus on House and Disco and a tertiary focus on music existing among the domains of Techno, Deep Tech, and Electronica. With intentions to enrich the human experience through sound and space, the artist captures inspiration from interactions with individuals, activities, technology, experiences, and places. His performances–contrasted and illuminated through what he labels emotional diversity–involve a multiplex system of feeling based on varying subgenres melding to engender a gradually shifting but tenacious atmosphere.
James has played at countless official and unofficial shows in Ontario, Whistler, and Vancouver, as well as on Vancouver Island. He is grateful to have shared stages with rising artists Nokturnal Funk, Ketafere, and Kilbourne, as well as Shambhala alumni Average Citizens, Sivz, Aspen King, Kermode, and Mattaio. The artist has released two guest mixes on the Three Records UK label as well as a guest mix on Wildlife Division. He is working toward guest mixes and track releases with labels and collectives that suit the heterogenous direction in which he seeks to progress his brand–with some of his release goals being on Wildlife Division, Cimmerian Records, Deep Dark & Dangerous, Cyclops Recordings, TRICK, Steel City Dance Discs, Filth on Acid, and Afterlife.
James continuously works on honing his production, finding tracks, collecting IDs, and curating and recording sets for shows, self-releases, and record labels. When experiencing a set from James, anticipate countless IDs from the artist and his homies alongside well-known and underground, new and old tracks, remixes, and edits, all carefully curated to capture a vibe that draws listeners into his world. Or conversely, into an imagined idea upon a worldly or creative concept, be that thematic of emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual experiences.
Holistically, James continually searches for new opportunities to perform and explore creatively while involving and sharing experiences with his followers and pursuing the maintenance and further development of a safe, inclusive, and vibrant musical space built on integrity, respect, and group-level enjoyment. He also plans to launch Sleepwell Sound Coalition in 2024: a collective and label featuring diverse genres, with various sub-labels to support different styles. With Sleepwell Sound Coalition, James plans to curate shows contributing to the underground and overground scenes around British Columbia.
