Iury Matias

Born in Natal, Brazil, Iury has a graduated in music at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, he’s a professional guitar player, and performs as a musician, composer, arranger and producer.
In 2005, he received the award of Young Achiever, by the newspaper O Público. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, he participated in the Ibiapaba Music Festival. In 2009, he participated in the International Summer Course of Brasília/DF. In 2010, with Nosso Choro, he was part of the “Som da Mata” Project, he was in the Cultural Circuit of Banco do Nordeste with Riccelly Guimarães, and he produced his record, supporting his work for four years.
In 2011, he produced Silvia Sol’s record, as well as the concert “Do Samba Novo a Bossa Jazz”, performed in IFRN Auditorium, Casa da Ribeira and Alberto Maranhão Theatre, with Zezé Motta within the “Projeto 6 e Meia”. In the same year, he became part of Group 3 da Matina, of Caio Padilha, with whom he recorded and played in concerts for two years. During this period he joined Boa Ideia trio in concerts such as the one in Teatro Richuelo, and performed on stage with Elza Soares.
Along with Diogo Guanabara and Henrique Pachêco, Iury wrote songs released in Camila Masiso’s records. In 2012 he took part in the project “Som do Mar”, in the Jazz and Blues Festival of Guaramiranga, he gave a concert called “Música Potiguar Brasileira” in the VII Festival of instrumental music in the Cultural Centre of Banco do Nordeste, in Ribeira Circuit, and got an award in the I Show of Instrumental music Maestro Theódulo Fernandes, Brazil.
He worked with several artists and Brazilian groups, such as: Letto, Klênio Barros, Diana Rafaely, Quarteto Potibones; shared the stage with Jubileu Filho, Sérgio Groove, Coutto Orquestra, Gilberto Cabral, Carlos Zens, Márcio Resende, Bruna Hetzel, Gilvando Azeitona and Júnior Primata. In 2013 he moved to Portugal to enrol in a Master’s Degree in Music at the University of Aveiro, while working with Samba sem Fronteiras, Guri, Bossa Libre and artists Lilian Raquel, Rogerinho do Acordeon, Denise Machado and Lívia Mattos.
Between 2014 and 2015, Iury was a music teacher in Palco Central School of Arts, participated in the first “Ponto de Guitarra” festival with a “Boa Ideia” concert together with Klênio Barros and his own original compositions. He performed at Cape Verde, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium. Currently, Iury is recording his own solo acoustic guitar album, which will be released in September 2016.
