JEFFREY ZARGO Jeffrey Zargo Gulf Harbors , FL My musical influences, started when I would listen to recordings my parents purchased a couple of brass horns songs come to mind for starters April In Paris by the Count Basie Orchestra, The next was Frankie Machine Elmer Bernstein theme from film Man With A Golden Arm ( starring Frank Sinatra and Kim Novak) My parents were Broadway theater goers. So all the records and songs were sung in the house frequently. We had an Irish Harp. I would pluck out There’s A Song in The Air but the Beautiful señorita doesn’t seem to care. (Sung by Alan Jones (Jack Jone’s father) from movie FIREFLY: Donkey Serenade. I just viewed it on YouTube I was smiling the whole time! it’ turns out it’s from nineteenth century Classical piece by composer Rudolph Frimi. I didn’t even know that! Later records by Jazz musician Charlie Mingus. Then my older sister had a friend whose father worked for W INS, radio wanna play music we had a lot of 50s rock ‘n’ roll records in the house I’m not a witch I like to sing along to ! Then go to capital records in times square, I liked the Shirelles, Smokey Robinson, and the miracles, Marvin Gaye The Marcels Bule Moon and a healthy amount of a cappella songs. Then there was the beatniks thing Cafe Wa in the west village going with an older neighbor when I started picking up on some folk music then The Birds. Sid Bernstein introduced me to Michael Clark concert in the venue, and another time to Steve Katz from the blues project and blood sweat and tears started singing some Dylan songs. I definitely had some R&B in my blood.Loved Mitch Ryder the Detroit wheels doing James Brown songs! Then there ) was the early British invasion after the Beatles cream, the Hollys. I even met them on the street with well known manager, Alan Klein near the stage delicatessen on seventh Avenue Them played some small venue on Third Avenue in the East 58 street Then later on the Motown sounds when I went to California and 67 for six months for some love, sex and rock ‘n’ roll. That was my first actual connection to the music scene going on in LA. I actually found myself inside the Capital Records Building , a couple of times in one of the studios. As an aspiring singer, I was friendly with a couple known Artists. New York, and started focusing on my writing and musicianship. I already had played some keyboard. a friend from LA Gave me my first Acoustic. Later on I picked up one of the early synthesizers a uni Vox mini Korg Is that Continental Oregon with a phase shifter A 12 string acoustic and a double quarter for track record with built in Echo. A couple of microphones, and I was off to the races! Although it took me a few years to be satisfied with what I was writing! Hey eventually , I ended up in the studio Using the very same fair like keyboard that Africa Bambaata Soul Sonic Force was using doing Planer Rock. Many live experiences later I now find myself creating part of my life’s Liner Notes.
