Jimmie Sands Jimmie Sands Mendocino Jimmie Sands is an American grasscoast country singer/song writer and guitarist from Northern California's Mendocino County. He is currently doing work for his new project on Long Island, outside of New York City, where he was raised. Sands began writing songs and improvising on his father's classical guitar around the age of 8. In high school he formed a band called Batteman’s Clock, an original act that went on to win the Long Island Battle of the Bands. He holds a business degree from Suffolk College and a philosophy degree from Stony Brook University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. After college he moved to Brooklyn and played a year long residency at Nightingales in the East Village with the likes of Nora Jones and Leslie Feist. The act, known as Jim & Danielle, showcased their original material throughout the city. With the help of his brother Eric, Sands produced and recorded their first self-released album. Eric went on to form the band Augustines who he still plays and records with. Later, Sands moved out to Mendocino in Northern California's Emerald Triangle to raise a family and check out the booming cannabis industry. Although it didn't work out to well for him, he seemed to find a silver lining. While serving three years in Federal Prison, Sands returned to playing a classical guitar and developed a style he calls grasscoast country. His songs express the life and evolving culture of North America's Great Grasscoast. Sands is currently working on a thirteen track demo for his first solo album and accompanying film tilled "Jimmie Sands-Grasscoast Country."
