Took me a long time to love Miss Lopez, and even longer to admit (30+ years I was pretty much solely into Hard Rock and Metal). But when I did I found out what besides her warm voice made me love her so much: the R&B material. So finally mid 2019 I started to check that genre, while for decades I disgarded it as perhaps "not real music" and I couldn't stand the singers.
Times so have changed, big time! Right now I need to hear the adlips and runs and the oh so obvious superior vocal skills. Where I used to think they were just showing off, now I know that they were doing what true artists do: doing everything the music needs. And therefor making it maybe the most pure, honest and genuine musicgenre there is! And these amazing singers tought me that the voice is the most important instrument there is!
Not saying it the best music there is... ah fuck it, I guess I am. I fell in love with the best music there is...
Some of my favourites:
Brandy, Ashanti (omg her flow), early Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Teairra Mari (so criminally underated) from the more old school.
Newer heroes are: with her beautiful soothing and silvery voice Toni Romiti, Kyndall (angelic voice), Mila J., Jhené Aiko, Shayne Shalome, Tiffany Evans, Tink, Aleksa Safiya(!), the incredible skill voiced Honey Bxby and the wonderful, wonderful Ann Marie!
Ann Marie is at the moment my favourite artist in R&B/Soul, so fucking impressed by her! She is my R&B Queen! Her style, talent, her unique and incredible voice! The colour to her voice and vibrato, amazing! Check her out, she deserves it, go and be amazed!
... and the journey continues, last year or two Hip Hop/Rap came crashing on down me... hardly listen to anything else anymore. And I am loving it...
A beat and a voice... and having something to say, the purest form of music there is...
Day Sulan, Young Lyric, Lakeyah, Leaf, Enchanting, Latto, Kaliii, Molly Brazy, Flo Milli, Ann Marie, Rubi Rose... they rule my playlists...
