Aurora Borealis by Joel Love | Composer published on 2012-02-04T03:13:26Z Aurora Borealis was inspired by the natural phenomenon that occurs in the northern latitudes. In short, auroral events are caused by the collision of energetic, charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere. Last year I spent most of my summer playing piano in a rock band aboard a cruise ship that traveled from Seattle, WA to Anchorage, AK and back several times. During a geomagnetic event late one night, I was fortunate enough to see the Aurora in the distance while sailing from Juneau to Hoonah, AK. The piece has three main figures: an ascending/descending tetrachord, a repeated eighth-note motive, and a melody (first heard in the clarinet). Love the energy and wonderful colors you're creating. 2017-08-09T06:33:51Z Comment by Matthew Allan 1 Hi! I was in the composer forum you did at Cal State LA. This piece is fantastic and has so many great things in it! The colors of the aurora borealis are portrayed so well in how you orchestrated this; I imagine each instrument being a certain color. I also really like how even during the slower and majestic melodies, you still create velocity and excitement with the constant sixteenth notes. I'm really looking forward to performing this tonight! 2014-05-08T22:29:20Z Comment by Saxman929 Hi Joel. 2013-08-15T20:28:30Z Comment by MemoryRacer quality! 2013-05-02T22:24:02Z Comment by sarah burford really enjoying this 2013-03-17T18:50:11Z Comment by Max Stoffregen Yo I heard this piece when it was still in it's midi diapers 2013-03-04T17:59:38Z Comment by ahaskett We are playing this great piece in our Wind Ensemble at Lamar University. 2013-02-05T02:51:13Z Comment by Riley Sheehan The arrival!! 2012-03-01T08:29:10Z Comment by Riley Sheehan Beautiful build here. 2012-03-01T08:28:06Z
