ABOUT & My STORY:
I’ve had that wish to turn the volume and frequency controls ever since I was a child. Once my Father plugged in an old reel tape recorder to record my voice, and I helped him at that.
My first acquaintance with music dates back to 1989, when I was 6. The source was a magnetic tape on our old Soviet recorder, Jupiter 202. I listened to the tapes of Space, Pink Floyd, ABBA, Yello.
I was a pioneer in a summer camp, when I got into a DJ’s cabin for the first time. Then came the chance to play the first cassette – one of Technotronic.
When I was 12, I liked 2 Unlimited, Snap, Сulture Beat, Real 2 Real.
1995. As I was growing up and the Soviet Union was falling apart, RAP was imported into our country. I bought my first modern tape recorder and began to spend all my money onaudio tapes of RAP performers.
1998. The first wave of RAP music retreated, and the group in which I had been singing broke up.My attention was then caught by a new radio station that played electromusic - "Station 106.8 fm".
Back then, very few radio stations could boast DJs who played Hardcore,Trance,Jungle.
Buying unrecorded tapes and recording radio broadcasts on them became my new hobby. I began to form new musical preferences. The number of broadcasts grew, and so did the number of my recorded tapes. Broadcasts with Acid-Trance and Techno-Trance music followed, and I gave them all of my attention.
In 1999 radio station 106.8 fm brought me to a night club for the first time. The power of the clubloudspeakers amazed me so much that Ifell in lovewith club music. Installing professional DJ equipment at home became my biggest wish. After the visit to the club, I joined the Psychedelic movement. Ilistenedto 106.8 fm practicall yevery night.
2000 became the turning point in my understanding of the electronic culture because that was when I heard Rave for the first time.
From 2001 on I was not only a club DJ, but also one for school discos. That year I discovered the recordings of Jeff Mills, Joe Beltram, Dj Tonka and Mateo&Matos that motivated me to listen to Techno and House.
But Psychedelic music remained my No.1 choice. I got to know more and more people in the field and started to buy electromusic from the shop where the best-known DJs of Moscow worked.
In 2002 I rented an underground accommodation in a public office to arrange discos. Due to its location, the club got the name ‘Sewer’. The same year I had OpenAirs under the name of the club, which had both afterparty and preparty format. My nick then was Dj Hipnotyc, and I learned to handle DAT,MD and CD carriers.
2003 brought another turning point, which had been meant to be: I discovered 5 discs: Process, Distrurbedances, RichardDavis, Maurizio and MRI. The sound captured me so completely that I stopped to collect Trance. In addition, Chris Korda came to Moscow, and he broke my stereotypes of how a DJ should work. A lot of music was produced to capture my mind: Gamat 3000, the first album SCSI9 of Anton Kubikov. Techno bar Phlegmatic dog was opened, which was later on frequented by many German techno stars.
2004-2007 were spent collecting not only compact discs but also vinyl and online releases. I tried to get my hands on anything that caught my attention: from Ambient and Trip-Hop to Electro and Classic music.
I gave some DJ performances in bars and tea-houses of Moscow. The music from radio station Deepmix and labels: Autoplate,Dial,Bpitchcontrol,Border community,Forcetracks,Resopal,Resist,Playhouse,Perlon,Sutemos,Sonar Kollektiv,No-Response,Kyoto,Klang Electronic, Traumschallplatten,Thinner,PlasticCity,Mule electronic,Morris Audio,Insectorama were magnetic for me, especially Peter M.Kersten aka Lawrence, Boards of Canada and Erlend Que.
Now I am more of a music collector than a DJ.
