JWM - Ambient 090622 by JWMMakerofMusic published on 2022-09-07T01:43:27Z For this piece, I wanted to create something in E Dorian and to be as hands-off as I could with mLFO controlling various parameters. Here's how it breaks down. First I wanted a meaty sub bass drone that had movement to it like a living organism, so I loaded in Flowtones and processed the subbass with Fabfilter Saturn, Bleass Granulizer, and Bleass Phase Mutant. The MIDI was driven by Atom Piano Roll 2. Next I wanted a rolling 16th-note mid bass, so again I used Flowtones for this and used Atom Piano Roll 2 to control the MIDI. I processed this through Bleass Dragonfly, Caelum Audio Beef, a lowpass filter, Bleass Reverb, Bleass Phaser, Baby Audio Crystalline, and a highpass filter to shave off a little low end. I used mLFO to control the level of the second oscillator in Flowtones and to control the lowpass filter cutoff. After that I wanted to create an "orchestral" sound, but entirely with Mellotron sounds. For this, I loaded three instances of Korg Module and selected Tape Strings, Tape Brass, and Tape Flute respectively. I placed one mLFO-controlled lowpass filter on each instrument as well as panned the strings and brass a little bit. I bussed the three Mellotron instruments to Mixbus B and placed on there Baby Audio Crystalline, a highpass filter, and Bleass Compressor for some mild soft-knee compression to help the instruments not get lost in the mix if one of them ducked out. FINALLY I bussed the orchestra, midbass, and subbass to the master buss and placed on there Bleass Compressor for some very mild compression (like 1.2:1 ratio with a super soft knee), and a peak limiter to catch any peaks if any (of which there were none). Cheers and enjoy this little piece of Ambient. Genre Ambient
