PROJECT SALOME - the prologue by Kaffe Matthews published on 2023-01-25T15:25:32Z Project Salomé is a complex reworking of the 1st-century story of Salomé from the perspective of the victim Salomé herself. Conceived and directed by SIngapore director Ong Keng Sen, the play splits itself into three components. One - Janice Koh playing several roles in Oscar Wilde’s 1891 play including Salomé, her stepfather Herod, her mother Herodias and the Syrian captain, Two - a film screened on stage involving Ong’s encounter with Michael(a) Daoud, a queer performance artist who fled Syria and now lives in Berlin. Three - Koh also playing a professional tennis player who has an affair with a married politician in a contemporary tale that unfolds on Instagram(@thesalomecomplex) weeks before the show ran, only finding resolution in the last moments of the performance. Throughout runs the fourth element. A six channel score, composed and performed live by Kaffe Matthews seated in the middle of the audience. HERE you can hear a stereo extract of Scene 1/ the Prologue. Commissioned by Singapore International Arts festival 2022, this extraordinary collaboration performed at the Victoria Theatre, Singapore 24-26.5.22 to thrilled audiences.
