Teacup (demo) by Holy Misfit! published on 2017-03-22T02:41:47Z Words and music by Stephan Goslinski and Kevin Wilcox © 2016 Lyrics: I am a teacup and you are the sea I’ll never contain your fullness in me One dip in your ocean and full I shall be But striving for answers is petty, it seems Oh Lord I need you On top of a mountain I first saw your face Washed by your water and dripping with grace And when in the valley I cannot keep pace I'll stand on your shoulders and stay in the race So teach me the words to say for you And walk with me all of my days Firm in your promises I’ll stand And I will be I will be I will be filled Night after night I still stare at the sky Wishing that wisdom may pour from your eye But like to Elijah you whispered that night Your love is a well that will never run dry I'm still a teacup, I'm chipping and weak Trying to trust you and striving to seek But morning by morning new mercies I see And cry out "My Lord is sufficient for me!"; (Jesus your love is sufficient for me) ----- This song was born out of a resolve to just write something without regard for what other people thought; and thus, the first verse was born. I took an analogy I've used in the past to describe how I see God (and my relationship with/understanding of Him) and put it to music almost verbatim. Then, I was stuck. I had put the whole of my thoughts on the subject into one verse and had nothing left to say. So I took it to Stephan, a buddy and a brother and a killer of a songwriter and asked him if he had anything to contribute to it. He came back with the rest of the song, and I realized in retrospect how much of my heart had yet to be unpacked by this simple analogy. It's been said that books are best written in community. I now suspect the same of songs. Genre Folk & Singer-Songwriter
