A Dark Song For Dark Times by Lammbone published on 2022-05-02T19:30:04Z Hey…. Thanks for dropping by. It’s Spring here, and you’d figure I’d be in a better mood. Ha. I just came inside from a little walk as the wind kept getting stronger, with a new front blowing in. So this is a dark song for dark times. I played the acoustic parts on a tiny guitar-like instrument called a Puerto Rican Cuatro. An old friend got it as a gift, and then gave it to me. Since I play it, I am called a Cuatrista in certain circles. The slide parts of the song didn’t come out as well as I thought they would, so I played the recorder instead… c'est la vie. Hopefully this summer, I will sit down with the recorder and figure out the notes and scale structures b/c I just wing it now, making stuff up as I go. I hope you don’t mind. (Some do) I am just having fun, and laugh when my old fingers actually cover the finger holes, so I don’t sound like a frantic goose running from the axe. OK, that was pretty dark. Especially sad for the goose. My chores now in the garden entail digging up grass infested flowerbeds and moving large garden rocks around. Also preparing the vegetable garden for planting… That entails picking out small rocks, (there’s a lot of them and I filled in some pot holes in the road with them.), and digging up and transplanting self-seeded volunteers such as violas, feverfew, mother’s wort, valerian, mint, garlic, small rhubarbs, some stray lettuce seedlings, and parsley and replanting them elsewhere. I let most of those plants go to seed, so I can collect seed in the fall, but the birds often get there first and spread some seeds around. Then I prepare the beds for planting in a few weeks or so depending on the weather. I also have check and put up some more rabbit fence, which the rabbits laugh at and sneak in anyway. Hope you’re all doing OK out there in the world. Mark Genre Ballad Comment by Kurt Mottershead Great track brother, reminds me of an Aussie band called Blackfeather. (Hope that names right) 2023-06-19T22:54:15Z Comment by Wayfarer DG The recorder sounds great on this... adds a sense of hope; see, the spring did seep in! 2023-01-16T17:29:10Z Comment by Sonni Quick Decades of journals and my life history in music. This age Is rather be than the beauty of youth of Wisdom is nicer. 2023-01-07T10:24:33Z Comment by Sonni Quick You and I are almost the same age. I have moved a lot, sometimes just because I had never lived there. But it's getting harder to pack up and go and my husband is older me I had to come to terms with where I ended up and make myself love it. 2023-01-07T10:23:02Z Comment by conover You are doing just fine Mark. Nice work! 2022-06-10T07:40:15Z Comment by Olly Joseph good job, the recorder is so difficult to make a nice sound!!! A lot of my garden produce goes to feeding the birds. 2022-06-03T08:13:08Z Comment by Wayfarer DG The recorder adds nicely to the vibe, Lammbone. Glad you're keeping busy. Really cool song! : ) 2022-06-01T11:56:49Z Comment by BluesmanRick Love the melody. Would go well with a good Chianti or maybe a Panama Red ... ahem. Well done, Larry! Great tune. As an aside, we have a perennial garden/flower bed amongst our columnar aspen. Both the birds and the wind seem to do a great job of spreading them amongst the chive (which grows like a weed, here). Always enjoy coming by for a listen. 2022-05-26T22:44:16Z Comment by Steve Low Would be good to see your lyrics printed out. Good to be stuck away south in the Pacific with the Sabre rattling going on. That guitar you're using must be special. I just finished a song based on my freedom loving surfy daughter - hope she isn't embarrassed! 2022-05-25T22:45:23Z Comment by Lefty Mike Enjoyed this walk through your musical garden... 2022-05-24T10:08:46Z Comment by Junzo_Kowashi's stockroom Awesome ! 2022-05-22T01:52:58Z Comment by Pa' Shot The Canary nice one man, always sounds great when you play the recorder. 2022-05-17T17:00:57Z Comment by spanishlilies Bravo, an ocean and half a continent away I am cheered by your melancholy musings. 2022-05-12T00:24:32Z Comment by Geestrücken Great Ballad,Mark! 2022-05-10T08:14:47Z Comment by Junzo Support Awesome ! 2022-05-10T06:54:44Z Comment by Jim Mcgill great feeling, loose and free that lets the light in 2022-05-10T02:36:17Z
