"Ka Pua U'i" by the Makaha Sons by Lester Gantan published on 2013-05-01T19:13:54Z May Day is Lei Day here in Hawaii so here's a fitting song that I recorded in my studio: "Ka Pua U'i" (the Beautiful Flower) by the legendary Makaha Sons. Growing up, it was always a thrill to see the Makaha Sons perform at the Makaha Bash http://archives.starbulletin.com/2003/06/13/features/story1.html In 2008, I had the honor to record them for a 20 song double CD project for Amuse Soft Entertainment in Japan. Uncle John Koko was still recovering from a heart procedure so Uncle Moon laid down some reference bass tracks so recording could commence. When Uncle John was well enough to make it to the studio, he came and laid down his Acoustic Bass tracks for all 20 songs: one take, no mistake! A superhuman feat by an extraordinary human being. To my knowledge, these were the very last recording sessions the Makaha Sons did before Uncle John went home to meet his Maker: Sleep with Angels Uncle The double CD set is available here: www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=ASCM-6030 Please visit my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FlyinHawaiianEntertainment Genre Hawaiian
