The tape is made up of 4 tracks by Brighton based band Octopuses. Side A Side B 1. Cool Story Bro 1. Sarcastic (Live at Lick) 2. Girl (demo) 2. Ghost (Live at Lick Octopuses are keyboardist/vocalist Adam Bell, guitarist/vocalist Alan Odgers, rapper/toaster Tom Matthews, bassist Rob Grice and his brother Alan Grice taking up drum duties. They formed in 2013, and released two singles on Big Salad Records the same year. Sarcastic was the Track of the Day on For Folk’s Sake and God Is In The TV. Adam Bell and Alan Grice formed Octopuses after their previous band Foxes! went on hiatus in 2012. Foxes!’ debut record was released to a positive critical response in 2012. They were described by Alex Petridis in The Guardian as “the first attempt in musical history to wrangle winsome C86 indie with prog rock”. Now the front man in Octopuses, Adam Bell describes his new band as ‘neo-psychedelic nineties revivalists’. Track 1 on side A ‘Cool Story Bro’ is the only hi-fidelity studio recording from this release, and is to feature on the band’s debut album ‘Yes Please’ – to be released later in the year. About the track, Adam Bell says: “It is a more serious song than their previous singles, with a sinister, aquatic groove with roaring guitars and searing keyboard melodies. The song is built around the vocal refrain, ‘It’s a long way down to the bottom of the ocean’, which rises to a euphoric trumpet solo and final repeating chorus.” Track 2 is a demo of a track titled ‘Girl’, and the B sides are live recordings, recorded at the Lick Warehouse – ‘Sarcastic’ and ‘Ghost’. Lick Music is a label run and funded by Lick, who make their own frozen yogurt (the only 100% yogurt froyo in the world). The music section of Lick was launched by Tom Lavis who previously worked in FatCat Record’s A&R team, his latest FatCat signing also being a band from Sussex, called Traams. Lick Music’s first tape release was by Milk & Biscuits in 2013, and are just putting final plans in place for an Autumn tape release which will be of Israel electronic artist Adi Ulmansky.
