RIPSTER Makaveli Ripster Opa-Locka Hailing from Miami’s infamous Opa-Locka, Lil Rip is one of the South’s fastest rising street artists with an aggressive flow and take no shit attitude. Since linking with Southern powerhouse County Bound Records, Lil Rip has been tearing up mixtapes, radio waves, and stages since 2004 and is now getting his long deserved major moment with the upcoming release of his debut album, Authentic. 27 year old Rip was born into the almost terroristic streets of Opa Locka, to a single mother who had 9 other children to care for. Seeing violence and strife was a daily way of life when Rip was coming up in 21 Jump Street, the local name for his section. “Yeah coming up times was hard, seeing my mom’s struggle. Just ordinary hood shit ya know.” As early as he can remember Rip began channeling this pain and aggression into music. Inspired by artists such as Tupac and Scarface, Lil’ Rip developed his own rapid fire style of as he puts it “straight gangsta shit”. To hear Rip on a track is the equivalent of seeing an AK-47 being put to good use. It’s straight murder. He tears through pounding beats with an almost wide eyed bloody mouthed abandon, telling tales of street life and what he’s gonna do to you if you cross the Authentic. “I don’t play no games. Ima’ do my thang how I wanna do my thang in a respectable manner. I’m comin aggressive.” This explosive style quickly caught the ears of County Bound Records CEO DJ Haze and Rip signed with the label in 2004 dropping his first mixtape, Official Nigga. Rip followed that up with three other mixtapes, which all did big numbers in the south as well as garnering radio play and show bookings. However now is time for his true story to be told with the release of Authentic, his debut album. Rip says this album is him, through and through, raw and uncut. “I put my heart and soul into this one. This the way I’ma be and the way I’ma die. Authentic” Although his music is at times an audio horror story, Rip says that his main message is to stay true to yourself. That’s the real meaning of Authentic and cites his family as his biggest inspiration as well as building his own budding record label Tombstone Records. The strong will survive and Rip has already been through the street’s battlefields and has the war wounds and bullet scars to show it. Now it’s time for him to earn his soldier stripes in the music field. Salute the Authentic. Written By Anthony Burgos, for AB Promotions, Miami FL.(786)306-9398.
