An Ancient Loneliness by L.J Rhodes published on 2021-07-01T17:28:13Z A product of isolation at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, this song was inspired by a sense of loneliness and longing as I looked at images from my travels, not knowing when or even if I would ever be able to see my friends in other countries again. In particular, I was moved by a picture of a friend I met in the Sahara Desert, hoping we would once again be able to walk in the dunes together. The melody is improv on a bamboo flute based on ancient instruments from the region. I just played what I felt as I looked at that photo of my Moroccan friend. I later added a drone track that offers deep bass during key passages to emphasize the depths of emotion that went into the composition.
