“Progressive electronica, with a touch of euphoria.” That’s how dance duo Loverush UK! personifies its melodic signature. And who’s to argue with success?
Since 2005, the production duo of Mark Loverush, a prominent figure in London’s underground dance music scene, and Berlin-based composer/producer Kinky Roland, has worked with a regal roster of dance talent, beginning with Soft Cell’s Marc Almond’s “Perfect Honey (Temptation),” on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto imprint. Heralded efforts followed for the likes of Boy George (You’re Not The One”), Marcella Detroit (“Mystery To Me”), Andrea Britton (“Deeper”), Kirsty Hawkshaw (“Loverush”) and Shelley Harland (“Different World”).
In 2007, Loverush and Roland launched independent London-based imprint Loverush Digital, initially an outlet for their own productions—which evolved into a destination to develop new global talent. Releases included the Netherlands’ Damien S; Australia’s Timothy Allan; U.S. act Nick Murray and Marcie; and the U.K.’s Kirsty Hawkshaw,
Lee Thomas and Tiff Lacey.
The team also delivered high-profile remixes for indie pop rockers Ash (“True Love 1980”) and Aviv Geffen (“It’s Alright”), which became dancefloor staples in Ibiza throughout the summer of 2009, thanks to support from legendary DJ Tiesto. Later that year, Loverush UK!’s “Fountains of Youth,” with vocals from Molly Bancroft, reached No. 2 on Music Week’s Club Play chart, ultimately capping the year at No. 12.
The duo certainly paid its dues to mobilize current success. Mark Loverush served as a resident DJ in London at The Arches (London Bridge) and The Eagle (Vauxhall) and in ANGEL ARTISTS 2001, he teamed with Dreamcapture to remix Ian Van Dahl’s smash crossover “Castles In the Sky,” which led to posts as Club Promotions Manager and head of
the Specialist Radio Division with renowned U.K. firm Power Promotions.
Kinky Roland moved from Berlin to London in the late 1980s and quickly marked his territory, recording more than 350 tracks under such monikers as Rudeboy, Terminator Benellux, Replicant, Dream Plant, Tranceparents and The MPC’s with Chris McKoy. Meanwhile, he officially remixed for Missy Elliot, Five, Liberty X, Shaggy, Culture Club, Amanda Ghost, Bananarama, Gabriella Climi, Boy George, Robbie Rivera & C&C Music Factory, B52s, Uncle Jam and Brian Anthony.
In 2009, their combined forces took a fateful turn when Loverush UK! collaborated with New York-based dance act Sylvia Tosun on “5 Reasons,” which catapulted to No. 1 on the DMC World Charts, No. 2 on Music Week’s Upfront Club chart and
No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play, Also No.1 Record of 2009 (DMC Update Club Chart) and 8th capping the year of 2009 (Music Week).
In total, Loverush UK! has propelled more than 40 original productions and remixes onto the U.K. Club Charts, with five Billboard Club Chart play hits and four No. 2 smashes on Music Week. And the future looks mighty bright: Recent releases include "Give Me Your Love," featuring Carla Werner; which topped the UK DMC Club Chart and remixes of Alex M.O.R.P.H.’s classic "Sunset Boulevard"; a new project for Diane Charlemagne (of Moby, Urban Cookie Collective and Goldie fame); and, just in time for the Miami Winter Music Conference & Ibiza, which takes place in March, a re- release of 2007 classic dance anthem “Different World” with Shelley Harland, including new remixes from Guru Josh Project, Johan Gielen & Cor Fijneman, Daz Bailey, Hybrid Heights and Timothy Allan.
This fall, a new Loverush UK! album is due, featuring collaborations with Molly Bancroft, Sylvia Tosun, Carla Werner, Lee Thomas, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Katie Marne, Andrea Britton and Tiff Lacey + many more. Remixes are in the works for Ben
Preston, FIO, Highpass, Lee Thomas, Soulshaker, Johan Gielen, Jes Brieden, Paul Oakenfold, Katie Melua, Milk & Sugar, The Shrink and Fortune, as well as a full- length electronica album for Molly Bancroft.
In addition, Loverush UK! hosts an ongoing weekend residency at SecondLife.com, a
user-created 3D virtual online community, with DJs brought in on a weekly basis from
around the world.
