Luis D.A. Luis D.A. Missouri City Luis Del Aguila (Luis D.A.) has always had music a part of his life. At the young ages of 4 and 5, his musical journey began playing the piano and trumpet, respectively. If there is one style of music that he has always loved, it’s jazz. He enjoys Miles, Coltrane, Ella, Louis, Monk and anything from the 1970’s and earlier. His talents have seen him play with numerous honor bands, symphonic bands and especially jazz ensembles. It was during his summers at the Summer Jazz Workshops in Houston that really allowed him to learn many aspects of jazz. So where does House music come in to this? During a trip to Wherehouse Music as an 8 year old, his father was going to buy him his first music CD. His brother tells him, “Pick the CD with the coolest front cover. That means the music is good.” He came across “Little Louie Vega at the New York Underground.” The colourful yellow cover and ‘Strictly Rhythm’ emblem struck Luis’ eyes. Earl Bennett’s voice hit Luis hard. He knew that he found his love in House music. In 1998 (or 99), Louie Vega came to Houston on tour and played at the venue Hyperia. Luis did everything in his will to make it to this event. With the help and driving of his older sister, he made it to the event, only to be escorted out due to his age. While inside, he was amazed with Louie and the way he moved the crowd. “I know what I want to do now,” is what he said when he arrived home. Fast forward to July 2010 and Praia Urbana, an all day electronic music festival in Houston, Tx. Luis’ childhood idols, Alix Alvarez and Mr.V were headlining the event. The organizers of the party gave Luis the honor of hosting the SOLE Channel duo for the weekend. Alix and Mr.V were impressed with how Luis was making them feel at home. At the after party, Luis played a set that caught the eyes and ears of both Alix and Mr.V. “I heard what he was playing and I thought Will was here! I had to do something.” said Mr.V. Now that Mr.V has taken him under his wing, only time will tell when and where in the world Luis will make us dance. “He’s a humble and cool as hell dude.” -Will ‘Reel Soul’ “I saw something in you that I haven’t seen in any young DJ in a real long time bro, and I mean that in a good way. I got you bro.” -Mr.V “This kid came up to me and said that he was going to be doing what I’m doing real soon.” -Dennis Ferrer
