Luke Dumbstruck Luke D Struck Nottingham Pain Stuck Stanley Dumb [WIDE Records] is the twisted offspring of Luke Dumbstruck and Christopher D Ashley. They met between 2004 and 2006 though neither is entirely sure how or when. All that is known is that Ashley ended up sleeping on Luke’s sofa. After Ashley moved in some synths they started writing loud music in his front room. Shortly after this, the neighbours moved out. Since their debut release “Automaticon” on WIDE Records, Pain Struck Stanley Dumb have regularly featured in Dave Clarke’s monthly top 10 and have been a regular feature of Radioactive Man’s DJ sets. Dave Clarke said on his White Noise radio show that a Pain Struck tune was “Something that transcends all barriers of electronic music, an incredible piece of music”. Radioactive Man also collaborated with Pain Struck Stanley Dumb on their debut EP, “We guard you while you sleep” in 2008, co-writing and producing the tune Kev’s Boudoir. “We guard you while you sleep” was heavily influenced by the Detroit Underground Resistance artists and have been compared to the likes of Drexciya. This may have been what led Juan Atkins to remark that Pain Struck had, “written some pretty cool shit”. Other fans of Pain Struck Stanley Dumb include Rob Da Bank who described their dub tune “The Future is Bleak” as “righteous…” and David Sugar who invited them to play tunes on his Ministry of Sound radio show. Pain Struck Stanley Dumb are currently working on a new EP due for release in early 2010 which will feature their unique brand of electro bass and techno disco (or tesco if you will). The EP will encompass some acid sounds as well, thanks to Billy Nasty’s generosity in lending them his beloved Devilfish 303 mod. With an array of remix projects already in the public realm and a bunch in the pipeline, Pain Struck Stanley Dumb intend to mechanize and re-arm with a fresh new live set for a devastating year long party in 2012.
