Luke Gavin Luke Gavin London Dance music came into Luke’s life towards the later years of Trade, Laurence Malice’s groundbreaking afterhours bender at Turnmills, London. At Trade Luke developed his taste for the uplifting funky vocal house of Fat Tony and Pete Wardman in the T-Lite room and the speed garage played on Sundays at Melt. Luke also found himself dancing to the progressive and tribal soundtrack provided by DJ & producer legend Alan X at Crash and the LA3. Inspired, Alan taught Luke the importance of sound and to recognise how our bodies react, allowing us to move in a sexy way. Alan encouraged Luke to understand the history of dance music, where it began in America with David Mancuso’s Loft parties, which Luke has since had the good fortune to observe the great programmer in action. With a year out in Paris Luke also developed a taste for French House at the end of the millennium. Shortly after Luke’s return to London he worked with Mike Bailey & Andrew Harris managing the production and promotions for Factor 25 and later Action the 2000 capacity circuit style party. At Action Luke learned every last detail that goes into making a night successful, being hands on with all equipment it was a natural progression to find him self behind the decks. Firmly catching the bug Luke furthered his professional knowledge being extensively trained by established DJ, engineer & producer Louisubsole, grasping the latest technology with literally both hands Luke became accomplished in his DJ skills as well as proficient in the elements of studio production. Honing his skills at The Green in Angel, now a Cutting Edge Bar, Luke mastered the art of the warm up, catering sounds to specific tastes and events so important in creating the atmosphere in order to build the energy of a dance floor. One major highlight Luke recalls playing a private party at The Winchester, watching Dermot O’Leary getting down on the floor. More recently Luke has collaborated with DJ Chris Camplin to form the DJ duo SoulBearers where they performed for the LIFT club (London International Festival of Theatre) at the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) on the Mall, London. A friendship that has spanned many years, Luke met Chris when he was 15 years of age and together they have accrued an extensive knowledge of Chicago & Detroit House along with Italo Disco, 90’s jams and current sounds. The journey begins here, with no limitations on genre or direction save one; that its got to have soul, with years of experience and creative style coupled with upmost professionalism you’re guaranteed to leave feeling better than when you arrived.
