Remembering John Macey (Remix) by Lou Di Falco published on 2012-01-12T02:18:56Z Composed by Lou Di Falco. This is a tribute to a great fusion guitarist by the name of John Macey. Macey lived most of his life in New Jersey playing and teaching guitar. He was a brilliant player and a great friend who died way before his time in obscurity except for the many students and loyal followers he had. I wrote and recorded this tune in honor of him. I was fortunate that I got to record on his last album 20 years ago titled "Metal Bop Blues from Mars". I attempted to capture some of the energy that went into that CD. My sampled guitar solo was an attempt to recreate John's playing and admittedly it does not come close. I would like to thank Ed Dzubak (check out his great stuff on SoundCloud) who laid down a swinging drum track while hanging at my house one spring afternoon. Enjoy! Genre Jazz Fusion Comment by One Hand Clap I met John one day when I was browsing at the music store and started to talk about music. John just came out of teaching a lesson and we started to chat. I told him I played fusion and he lit up with that great humble smile. He asked, why don’t you take some lessons with me? I said, I don’t read music and I had horrible experiences with guitar teachers that didn’t get me. John said, hey, I will show you how to play any song you like and maybe teach you some cool stuff. That he did. He opened my world to “tabs” and before long I was playing some very cool stuff never once attempting to read traditional music. 2018-10-31T16:42:48Z Comment by Tjmitch326 Nice Lou - John was a legend! 2017-02-17T22:21:34Z Comment by mevilight I was john's last student and good friend we spent many hours jamming and i picked up alot of very cool licks from him. I miss him as a friend and instructor. I recorded all my lessons and hours of just jams and talk. I would like to get some of his albums but there seems to be none to be found :-( RIP John 2013-12-31T15:20:25Z
