Lynn Atkins

A native of Red Bank, NJ; tenor/conductor Lynn Gary Atkins, Jr. is steadily building a reputation of musical success in the classroom as well as the concert hall.
Lynn has performed on stage in choirs with the New York Philharmonic (Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit, Lorrin Mazzel), New Jersey Symphony (Zendeck Maccal) and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (George Daugherty), and in choirs for Julie Andrews, Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church, Linda Eder, Denyce Graves, Patti LaBelle, and Christopher Plummer. In addition to this, Lynn sings in concerts for public and private venues.
Dr. Atkins started his teaching career in the Ewing Township Public Schools (NJ). After his graduate studies, he taught in public and private educational institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.. Lynn also used his choral training skills as Assistant Minister of Music for Covenant Presbyterian Church; Trenton, NJ and as Director of Music at Elkton United Methodist Church; Elkton, VA. Choirs under the direction of Maestro Atkins have toured up and down the East Coast.
From 2013 through 2019, Maestro Atkins served as the second artistic director of One Voice Chorus Richmond, a choral institution devoted to singing the Beauty and Power of Diversity. Through its intentional encouragement of recruiting African American and European American singers, the organization works towards racial reconciliation of the historic tensions in the Richmond metropolitan area through singing choral music.
Lynn is a product of The Visual and Performing Arts Academy of Red Bank Regional High School. Upon graduation, he attended Westminster Choir College of Rider University, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 2004. Dr. Atkins also received a dual Masters/Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from James Madison University in 2012. Lynn has studied voice with Rochelle Ellis, Faith Esham, Dari Franks, Carrie Stevens and Kris Zook. He has studied Conducting with James Jordan and Jo-Anne van der Vat- Chromy.
Currently, Dr. Atkins serves as Director of Choral Activities for Pinelands Regional School District in Little Egg Harbor, NJ; where he teaches courses in Music Theatre, Piano, as well as conducts the five choirs at the school. He also serves as Vocal Music Director of the Pinelands Thespians Drama Troupe. In addition to this, Lynn serves as Chorus Master for Litha Symphony in New York City, as well as Tenor Section Leader for All Saints Church in Princeton, NJ and Congregation B’nai Shalom in East Brunswick, NJ.
