MANKIND’S BIOGRAPHY
Real name Tswelopele Tsotetsi,
Mankind was born in Mpumalanga, Emalahleni; previously known as Witbank and later moved to Standerton where He spent the most of his childhood.
Mankind was first introduced to music by his parents who listened to a lot of Jazz, waking up to the sounds of Hugh Masekela, Zim Ngqawana, Sankomota, Pink Floyd, Sipho Hotsticks Mabuse, Busi Mhlongo, Brenda Fassie, Enya, Revolver etc. This eventually drew him closer to music.
Mankind began playing drums at Church when he was only twelve years old, while his love for literature throughout High school would introduce Him to poetry; fusing His skill of playing drums and playing with words eventually led him into Rap music, which is Rhythm and Poetry.
After completing High School, Mankind moved to Johannesburg to study Journalism which had a huge impact in shaping his writing skill.
Mankind released his first music project in 2013, an EP titled “Give Dat Tenda’’ consisting of 5 tracks.
The single of the EP, ‘’Tony Yengeni’’ made it to the Hype Magazine 2014 music edition compilation.
2016 saw Mankind being invited to the Red Bull studios in Cape Town, where he recorded yet another breath taking EP consisting of six amazing songs, working with the likes of Stilo Magolide, Masedi, DJ OD and Boolz just to mention a few.
Being under the Red Bull music academy exposed Mankind’s music to a whole new world with an audience consisting of a wide variety of races and age groups.
In 2017, Mankind together with Morena Leraba, a musician from Lesotho and TrapFunk Alivio, a group of producers from Brazil collaborated on a song titled ‘’Impepho’’ which made/is still making waves around the world.
Their song ‘’Impepho’’ saw them being crowned as winners of the 2017 Jameson music video grant, affording them an opportunity to shoot a R200 000 worth music video.
The music video was shot and directed by Carl McHouston in Lesotho, capturing the BaSotho culture and exploring the beautiful landscape of the Semonkong Mountains of Lesotho.
Mankind has recently released a deluxe edition album consisting of new material with a variety of features and is currently working on a new album.
