Sleep Now (Protus Vocal Ensemble and PROTEAN STRING ENSEMBLE) by Composer - Dr. Matthew Emery published on 2018-11-28T21:42:37Z PROTUS is an a cappella chamber vocal ensemble comprised of choral artists from Louisville Kentucky. Formed in January of 2014 by artistic director, Richard Burchard, the group is dedicated to the research and performance of lesser-known choral repertoire from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and occasionally newly composed works. The group's repertoire includes music for mixed choir as well as pieces for "low-voice" ensemble that extends into ranges below and above most modern day TTBB works. PROTUS is a Greek word for "first" and is used in Medieval western music to identify the first pair of melodic church modes more commonly known as Dorian and Hypodorian. https://composermatthewemery.com/2016/03/04/sleep-now/ Sleep now, O sleep now, O you unquiet heart! A voice crying ‘Sleep now’ Is heard in my heart. The voice of the winter Is heard at the door. O sleep, for the winter Is crying ‘Sleep no more!’ My kiss will give peace now And quiet to your heart – Sleep on in peace now, O you unquiet heart!
